Monchy y Alexandra Split!

Published by chitownchica under latin music Edit This

WOW!

After hearing the big news about Bachata’s biggest duo Monchy y Alexandra calling it quits today, I was genuinely dissapointed.  I never really listened to Bachata till the two of them hit the soundwaves, and then I discovered Aventura and finally hit the classic Bachata sounds.

Hector “El Father” Retires with Biblical Farewell

Published by chitownchica under latin music Edit This

Even though plenty has been in the gossip columns regarding Hector El Father in the last few months, there has been very little music wise.  But, right after announcing that he will retire from the music industry, El Father also let us know that he had one last album to drop.

Wonder if it will be the same old, or full of the new stuff he has said he will be preaching from now on–  The Word of God.  From the look of it, it seems like Hecto will be doing a little chastising and warning folks about the error of their ways.

The new album cover features Hector standing in the image of a large city being bombed with what appear to be meteors.  The words Juicio Final are splayed along the bottom, as a warning (?) or a reminder (?).

Either way, there are not many artists who have spoken out about El Father’s departure from the latin music industry.  But, with the way things are going for reggaetoneros lately, I can understand why..less competition is better.

Anyway, a last look, for now, at the stuff that he has become known for and is giving up.

Alazanez de Sonora Singer Killed

Published by chitownchica under latin music Edit This

The escalating violence in Mexico has been all over the news lately, as criminals walk around freely and citizens get fed up with the local police and overall government corruption.  Singer Ivan Aaron Canastillo Villanueva, of Alazanez de Sonora, is the latest victim to the violence and will be missed.

Ivan was reported missing earlier this week, but his body was not found till Thursday.  His death was not an accident either, and like other music stars in Mexico, as he was found with a gunshot wound to the head.  Incidents like this make anyone think twice about entering the music industry in a country that has a long history of violonce to accompany it.

Ivan leaves behind two children.

Surrogate to Ricky Martin’s Twins is Official

So it turns out that all those rumors behind the identity of the Martin surrogate were just that, rumors.  Apparently, Martin went through an agency to find and use a surrogate mother for his newborn babies.

Martin didn’t plan on having twins, but you know how those things go.  And TMZ has reported that Ricky was not immediately happy with the news that he was expecting twins, but eventualy came around to the idea.

So, there was no cousin involved.  And honestly, that would have been a little weird, even if it was all done in a medical center without any physical contact.  The surrogate mother was paid and taken care of and might possibly be a surrogate mother for another couple or individual.

Like I said before though, no matter what people think, or who berates the man for deciding to have these babies the way he did– there are still two little babies involved and one family, so blessings and happiness to them.

Wedding Bells for Flex

Published by chitownchica under latin music Edit This

It’s official. Flex married his longtime girlfriend Osiris Vega!

Ok, I think it’s great that the guy is in love and got married, but I understand that many of his fans out there aren’t as happy as I am.  Stop it.  Be happy for the guy, he just got married.

On the music front though, I hope that the wedding and continued displays of affection for his new wife inspire the guy and we get some more great hits like Te Quiero.  I don’t think the guy will be a one hit wonder, but I am getting anxious for another great beat to keep me going through the winter months.

And here is the incredible hit from Flex, ft. Belinda

Ricky Martin’s Twins Not Tabloid Worthy

Published by chitownchica under latin music Edit This

 rickymartin.jpg

In the last two years just about every celeb newborn has graced the cover of one tabloid or another, so Ricky Martin’s twins should be next. Right?

Turns out it might not happen though. And considering Ricky Martin’s boys were born with the help of a surrogate mother and modern medicine you would think mags would be jumping to get the photos and the story.  According to various tabloids, Ricky and the story of his new twin boys can’t be a story without a story.

That’s right.  Ricky is not willing to dish out information to the presses regarding the birth of his sons or their surrogate mother.  Since the tabloids are only willing to pay for a story and photos, and Ricky isn’t willing to share that part of his life, those tabloids want nothing to do with him.

Got to hand it to the man for sticking to his guns and maintaining privacy for himself and the mystery woman.    And even though I don’t blame the man for keeping this part of his life private, I do hope that there are some photos of the boys made public sooner than later.  After all, everyone loves baby pics.

In the meantime, here is an old favorite from the new dad.

Viva! Chicago Latin Music Festival

Published by chitownchica under latin music Edit This

Instead of bringing you some gossip today, I thought I would leave you with a taste of what is to be at the Viva! Chicago Latin Music Festival.

For some reason all the festivals this summer were pushed up, well at least the two that I always go to were.  Last week was the Chicago Air and Water Show and this weekend is the Viva! Chicago Latin Music Festival.  Now, knowing that the Air and Water Show is always on the weekend of my birthday my family and I made other plans…..same thing for this weekend.

So, this year I am not able to go downtown for the Latin Musc Festival :(

Still, join me in listening to some of the music that will fill the park this weekend.

Dulce Maria of RBD Speaks Out

Published by chitownchica under latin music Edit This

Word from the band and individual band members, especially Dulce Maria, has been published regarding the decision to break up RBD.  Dulce Maria was quoted as saying the band made the decision to break up together, and that they were not forced to disband by anyone.

With talk of future and upcoming projects that each band member is involved in, it only seems natural that they would want to end their RBD pop group careers and move on to bigger and better things.

Dulce Maria did express confusion over why Anahi would incite fans to protest though.  Apparently, Anahi, who is part of the band was in on the decision making and agreed to the break up just like everyone else.

If Anahi did have reservations about the band breaking up, she should have said something sooner….to her bandmates.  Would of saved her a lot of embarrasment and energy spent by fans who took her up on her suggestions and have already started protesting.  Many of them have jumped to the conclusion that RBD was forced to stop producing together, which is just not the case.

Here’s a little RBD to console fans

RBD Fans on the Loose and Protesting

Published by chitownchica under Uncategorized Edit This

 653px-rebelde1.jpg

After RBD announced that the band will split and no longer be producing music together, fans and non fans went crazy.  Anahi, one of the band’s most popular members, apparently called for fans to protest the bands breakup on a forum.

Not exactly sure why she would do this, as you would think that the people who would be able to have any change in keeping the band together would be the members and not the fans.  Anyway, she apparently encouraged fans to look into protesting and taking to the streets.

AND THEY DID!

If you want to protest fine, but have a good reason to hold a protest.  And, certainly make sure that it is an organized event.  In one video that I watched protesters were walking around carrying signs, flags and large banners, but seemed to have no care for their safety.  They literally walked into the street with oncoming traffic, as they played music and went on singing.  Crazy.

Anyway, more protests are scheduled for the near future, including one in NYC that is supposed to end at the label’s offices.  Lovely.  Not sure what Anahi has to say about all this now, but I am sure the rest of the band members have something to say to her.

Personally, I don’t think the music world is losing much with RBD.  They have the same sound so many other groups had and it is time for them to move on to bigger and better things (hopefully).  There is sure to be another teen pop group taking their place in the very near future anyway, and then you can all get your tshirts.
